I Know Him!

While watching and listening to the NCAA tournament I kept hearing names and those names kept sounding familiar. Come to find out, I actually sort of know them. With my three years working at ONN I got to meet a lot of the best in Ohio. As I am writing this I have seen two guys I had interviewed. BJ Raymond (Toledo St John) who is Xavier and Raymar Morgan (Canton McKinley) at Michigan St. I did a feature about BJ Raymond and followed St John as they advanced to the finals my last year. Raymar was part of a Canton McKinley bulldog team that dominated the state. He was a man playing against boys.

Then I also saw a story on the NFL Network about Jevon Ringer who went to Dayton Chaminade Julian. Javon is looking to make it in the NFL, but every time I see him all I can think about is the promo he did for us. He said "Hi, I'm Javon Ringer and you are watching SportsZone." He jumped and did a round house kick in front of the lens. All I kept thinking was, "Holy crap this guy came inches from kicking my camera, which was set up 5 feet off the ground. He later broke his leg his senior year, but he still has a chance to make it to the NFL.

That's the thing I miss, I will no longer be able to say "I know that kid, he almost kicked my camera" or "That guy dunked over my reporter (DeQuan Cook)." I will being able to do that. I know no one else cares, but for me it was always a perk of shooting high school and college sports.

Ohio State vs Michigan

You would think living 9 hours away from Columbus that I would not have to deal with the Ohio State Michigan game... I was wrong. I did a post for the work blog, but I thought I'd put one here as well.

I was in The Wife's car trying to order a chicken taco at Taco Bell, when I kept hearing a car horn. I was wondering what’s going on, and I look in the rear view mirror and see a guy pointing to his hat… it’s a Michigan hat. “How did he know I’m from Ohio or the fact that I like Ohio State. Then I realized… I’m in The Wife’s car and she has a buckeye car flag and a Brutus the buckeye hanging from the rear view mirror.

I thought I’d have a little fun, I get to the window and ask the guy for a favor. “Hey, the guy behind me is a Michigan fan, tell him Tressel owns Michigan.” He laughs, the guy was trying to do something similar to me, but he couldn't understand him. I get my delicious taco and pull forward, keeping my speed to a slow roll I see the Michigan fan talk to the guy in the drive thru and then look towards me.. all I am thinking is “I got you last GO BUCKS!”

A Note From The Wife: Cheerleaders

From time to time The Wife will get upset about something and must vent about it. She has tried blogging on her own, but it was not her thing. So when ever she gets one of this rants, I'll let her use polkamonkey to vent. So with out further ado, here's The Wife

I have had it up to hear with cheerleaders/dance teams/Pepsi girls.
OK let me say what a huge sports fan I am. I come from a family of football players, my dad, my brothers, my cousins, and my uncles. I love to watch the game live or on TV. I grew up with cheerleaders toilet papering our house on the night before a big game. I even tried out to be one in high school. Well when I didn't make it, I decided I didn't like them anymore. They annoy me. I have had a strong hatred toward them since.
Now you see them everywhere. You go to a basketball game, they are there. You go to a hockey game, they are there. And dammit you go to a baseball game and they are there too. Why in the world do you need them at a baseball game.
I went with "The Husband" to a help with the NC State vs UNC baseball game tonight. Next thing I know there are these dancer girls on the dugouts shaking their thing. OK, I came to watch the game not the watch them. I just don't understand sports anymore. It's all about sex. And there not even trying to sell anything. OK I'm done, this subject upsets me.
By the way I forgot to tell you that since we moved hear I have become an UNC fan and "The Husband" is an NC State fan (we will always be OSU and BGSU fans). If you haven't heard, UNC kick some Wolfpack booty.
