Complaining... again

I had a friend email me a guy who was looking for a production assistant and of course it's work so I sent in my resume, references, blah blah blah and yet again I had my hopes up. Not a lot though, once you had hope dashed to sunder a few dozen times you start guarding yourself.

I check my mail and I got a message. "Oh please be good." I stated as I opened the message. It was more of the same, except this time I at least got a response. The work was for only ten an hour and according to him below my skill level.

That got me thinking, how many of these jobs have I been "over qualified" for? With the way things are going, I don't care if I'm over qualified, I want to work and try to make a decent living. I just don't get it, don't they understand that I am applying for that job? I know it's below what I have done, but I don't care. I'm just getting tired of the rejection. Just once I'd like to get a freaking interview for a job that will actually get me work.

It's been three months and no end is in sight and I just don't know what to do. I'm afraid that I will have to open a TVjobs.com account and try and get back into news. That means we have to move, I don't want that, but with baby Logan on the way, I have very little options right now.

Tired of Dead People

In the news business, you get to cover a lot of fun stuff like people being killed, AWESOME! For the most part, the deaths we cover are generally spaced out, but lately I have had to cover 4 high profile murders and it is starting to take a toll. I am tried of it, it's not fun and you have to be serious. Day in and day out we have covered these local deaths with very little breaks. Being on nightside it is magnified, because 11pm producer wants something new. I don't blame her, it's just we have a limited number of night side crews and with the luck of the draw I'm covering one of the deaths.

You joke around about it, you try not to think about it, yet it is still there. Today I covered a vigil almost three hours away from the station. All the people there did not even know the girl, she didn't even live there. The only connection was she was found there. After four weeks of death I need a long break from it. Luckily, I have a vacation coming soon and hopefully after all the death stories will have passed

Burnt to a Crisp

Yesterday started out OK, but then I got to work. We did a simple story nothing too hard, but I was not "feeling it" and I shot like ass. Even when we get back to the station I couldn't get into the story. It didn't look bad it was just, a story. I figured out why, I am in the mist of a burn out. Prior to Monday I had worked 11 days in a row, which is tough, but when you add in tornadoes and running the field of a college football game, that makes me a little worn out. I had only Sunday to rest and I did a little, but I needed two to feel human again. I know I'm going to struggle today and there is no real end in sight. I'm being asked to do another 8 or 10 in a row starting in a week. I don't know how to handle that kind of news. I don't get over time because they will "fix my schedule" to make it overtime free. I need a few days off that don't require me to work more than 5 days in a row afterwards. I wish I had enough sick hours to call off.

March Madness: The End?

This picture is the last one I'm taking in Winston Salem. I have just sent my four pieces of video and sound to the station for the sports show. I am breaking down and driving the almost two hour trip back to Fried Chicken Dr. It was fun, but a lot of work. Now I have to get ready and do it all over next week. I know I'll recoup, but a few beers and naps will be needed.
